Resource Proposal for Cloud Security Engineer – Integration Modernization Initiative Project Name: Integration Modernization Resource Requirement: Cloud Security Engineer – Contractor Key Technologies Involved: TIBCO, APIGEE, Kafka, and other integration tools (TBD)

Executive Summary The Integration Modernization initiative aims to enhance Ulta’s capabilities by modernizing existing systems, optimizing processes, and enabling seamless communication across various platforms, focusing on a move to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). As part of this effort, we will integrate a range of tools and technologies, including TIBCO, APIGEE, Kafka, and additional integration platforms (TBD) over the next 12 months. Scope of Work The Cloud Security Engineer will work closely with the Integration Modernization team to design, implement, and monitor security measures across various integration tools. They will ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of data as it flows between systems. The security engineer will also assist in defining policies and best practices for integrating TIBCO, APIGEE, Kafka, and any future tools. This role will involve both strategic planning and tactical implementation. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Security Assessment and Risk Management:
    • Conduct security risk assessments for integration tools (TIBCO, APIGEE, Kafka, etc.)
    • Identify and mitigate potential vulnerabilities in cloud-based architectures.
    • Ensure proper encryption and key management protocols are in place.
  1. Architecture and Design:
    • Collaborate with solution architects to design secure integration architectures, ensuring proper authentication, authorization, and data protection across the platforms.
    • Work with cross-functional teams to integrate security into DevOps pipelines, CI/CD workflows, and API lifecycle management.
  1. Tool and Platform Security:
    • Ensure security configurations of TIBCO, APIGEE, Kafka, and other integration tools are aligned with industry standards and organizational policies.
    • Manage security integrations with Ulta’s identity management systems.
  1. Monitoring and Incident Response:
    • Set up continuous monitoring for security events and anomalies across the integration platforms.
    • Respond to security incidents and provide remediation guidance in the event of breaches or vulnerabilities.
  1. Compliance and Auditing:
    • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2, etc.) for the tools and services in use.
    • Conduct regular audits of security controls and recommend improvements as needed.
  1. Documentation and Knowledge Transfer:
    • Maintain up-to-date security documentation for each platform transferring monitoring and incident response to the Security Operations Center.
    • Conduct knowledge transfer sessions for the wider IT and security teams to ensure ongoing security practices are followed.

The Fragiadakis (Data Science) and Combes (Disease to Biology) Labs, are seeking researchers in computational biology, bioinformatics, and data science to tackle current challenges in immunology. As a member of the lab, you will learn the analysis methods, as well as the conceptual and biological background, to analyze -omics datasets such as CyTOF, single-cell sequencing, and spatial transcriptomics. Once comfortable with these methods, under direct supervision, you will perform analyses to contribute to our understanding of immune state in our patient cohorts. You will integrate molecular data with clinical information to understand how the immune system impacts disease outcomes. You will be expected to document your analyses, present your progress and results, and participate in lab meetings. We currently have several projects examining the relationship between immune state and health outcomes in a variety of UCSF patient cohorts, including infection, autoimmunity, and cancer. Our aim is to better understand how the immune system is wired and responds, to develop better disease diagnosis and treatments. As a member of our labs, you will contribute to the design of new experiments, help maintain our computational infrastructure, and track the flow of samples and information for large-scale studies. This position is jointly offered by Dr. Alexis Combes and Dr. Gabriela Fragiadakis, who both direct CoLab teams that often collaboratively pursue questions of immune state using single-cell methods, providing an environment of wet-lab and computational biologists with whom to work. While this position requires some proficiency in programming and data analysis, candidates who are fast and eager learners, who can readily adopt new bioinformatics pipelines/workflows that have been developed in the lab and the field at-large and apply them to a series of diverse projects can be successful in this role. An aptitude for collaborative work and organization is required to excel in our environment of diverse researchers. CoLabs is a new model for research collaborations for the UCSF community. CoLabs centralizes research teams and creates a set of common pipelines and workflows. It recruits and retains world class staff and trainees and develops transformative methods and technologies through engagement with the research community and institutional investments. The CoLabs initiative is comprised of five labs: Biological Imaging Development (BIDC), Data Science (DS), Disease to Biology (D2B), Flow Cytometry, and Genomics. The CoLabs help organize and integrate the UCSF community through common pipelines and data curation and pursue a set of collaborative “CoProjects” that tackle fundamental questions in the biomedical research. CoProject day-to-day operations are managed and run through the CoLabs.
Required Qualifications

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyzes and corrects security-related connectivity issues utilizing network management systems.
  • Configures firewalls by creating and maintaining access list rules, creating object groups and
processing network addressing translation requests to maintain access control.
  • Configures the District’s web access filter by processing requests on dashboard to ensure the functionality of the system and review dashboard for actionable items.
  • Fulfills Virtual Private Network (VPN) requests by adding new users to active directory VPN groups, maintaining and configuring access lists, adding IP addresses to access list, assign software token for password generation, and review authentication logs and troubleshoot access issues.
  • Recommends security solutions or enhancements to existing security solutions to improve overall
enterprise security.
  • Collaborates with higher level engineers in the deployment, integration and initial configuration of all new security solutions and of any enhancements to existing security solutions.
  • Researches IT security issues and industry trends to make recommendations for internal improvement.
  • Performs related duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field. Qualifying experience in addition to that required may be substituted on a year-for-year basis provided that the requirement of a high school diploma or equivalent is met. Experience: Four years of recent experience in the engineering, installation, configuration, and maintenance of security devices for a large organization; such as next-generation firewalls, Virtual Private Networks, intrusion detection/prevention systems, multi-factor authentication, next-generation endpoint security, and Security Information Event Management systems. Special: Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Security, Cisco Certified CyberOps Professional or equivalent is required and must be kept valid during the term of employment Any Global Information Assurance Certification GIAC certification is preferred Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation level certification is preferable A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the state of California and the use of a motor vehicle.
